God In Orthodoxy

If you didn’t find God in orthodoxy then don’t bother because you won’t find him anywhere else!

“Please note that this article is based on my own experience and I don’t claim that I have a liturgical background”

Let me start with Revelation 22:13 The lord said:  “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last”

Christianity in general is not a gym membership or a free access card that you can use when you feel like it or when you have time to do so. Orthodox Christianity is a lot of work, HARD WORK! so if you are not ready for this commitment or if you are not ready to take this mission seriously, then do not bother!

I think of Jesus Christ as my best friend. I give him my full attention, I speak to him, I tell him my problems and I share my happiness with him, I put my life in his hand because I do trust him, I don’t just trust him or love him just because this is the correct thing to do, On the contrary because my  faith is creedal because God lives within me and my gratitude forces me to ecstatically trust, love, pray and glorify Jesus Christ our lord.

This is an ancient Christian saying that goes back to the writer Tertullian, who lived in the late 2nd and early 3rd centuries. “You can’t undo anything you’ve already done, but you can face up to it. You can tell the truth. You can seek forgiveness. And then let God do the rest.”

The point from this quote is very clear you cant undo what you have done but you can seek forgiveness, and the forgives from Jesus Christ our lord, and the forgiveness its not like: hey Jesus my lord I have did this and that I have sinned in my mind and body, etc… do forgive me because I really love you, please thanks, we talk later… (do not laugh) some people think God work this way, they think he is always on standby for us to call him, my beloved brothers and sisters no it is not like that, in fact it is more simplare than that, all we need to do is to show up with repentance and clear heart all we need to do In the first place to show up…

You want to find Jesus Christ our lord and our god first thing you need to do is show up this is the main thing that I would say to somebody who’s interested to find Jesus christ, come to church come to church with open eyes and open ears and heart and  really pay attention to everything let it all sink in.

Another thing ask for forgiveness: in the lord prayer we say “forgive us our

trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”

Are you ready to forgive those who trespass against us? Not just like yes I do, we are fine, are you really ready to forgive and move forward? Jesus said the following on the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise (in response to one of the two thieves crucified next to him)

More important thing to find Jesus Christ is that you cant and almost impossible to find it on your own, you need help all of us need help the first help is from the holy spirit. 2nd find a spiritual father, visit the nearest Christian Orthodox Church near you find a priest talk to him explain why you are here let your priest or spiritual father help you to pray the Jesus prayer, they will give a clear guides to do so.

Read, Start reading the gospel, understand every single word, read our elders and fathers book they are great great help.

Confess your sins. st. James the Apostle writes: therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed the prayer of a righteous person has great power. Remember when you are come to confess your sins you are coming to the divine physician for the healing of your soul, think about it like you are visiting your doctor you want to tell about everything you are feeling to be able to serve you.

Fasting, fasting for me it is extremely personal and very challenging thing to do, fasting always turns us back to God that’s why we fast not because it has any salvation powers and of itself. Fasting & Prayer goes together cleanse the soul and the body. (Please consult your spiritual father or your priest to give better understanding and clearer guides about fasting) In orthodoxy we fast for almost everything there is approximately 180 – 200 days of fasting per year. The faithful are advised to avoid olive oil, meat, fish, milk and dairy products every Wednesday and Friday throughout the year.

Remember we fast because we are human beings created in the image and likeness of God & When you are fasting prayer is the most essential thing to do it is not difficult to go an entire day without food.

Open your mind and your pure heart and you will find Jesus Christ inside your heart he was always there but you never opened for him.
